+Noah Bruckner Organic farmers use Bt toxin on their crops. In the ultimate irony, many of them actually do inject the bases of their larger plants with a hypodermic needle containing Bt toxin. GMOs never involve needles but Youtube trash videos show it every day.

+XRookX . GMO is never an actual food ingredient any more than seed selection, hybridization or grafting is. GMO is a laboratory breeding method, GMO seeds grow plain old foods. Any food with an "off taste" will not survive in the marketplace so that was a stupid comment.

I also call out conspiratards on anti-vax, anti-fluoride and chemtrail bullshit. This is a noble pursuit. I will never stop as long as conspiratards and trolls exist.

Because it is not reality. Because it is not scientifically correct. Because if you would actually grow real crops you would know that the taste and nutrition value is 10% of organic crops. Maybe do some independent research or better yet try to grow something before looking at some animations and wondering why.

That is the single worst advertisement on GMOs I have seen so far. And you say it yourself in the video: GMOs have the potential to "dampen the effects of our own irresponsible behavior". Should we not try to change our irresponsible behavior towards being responsible? Irresponsible behavior is what led to pests being so strong; in Hawaii for example, because they are farming papayas in monocultures which usually have a rather low genetic variance and are, therefore, threatened by pests. GMOs are blurring what we are doing wrong by mitigating the effects of what we as humans are notoriously messing up. Results are inequality, climate change and biodiversity loss. By using and developing GMOS we as humans we will never get down to the real problems or our society nor change our societal behavior but keep doing what we are doing, because we think we can, until "shit hits the fan". At that point it will be to late for the majority of the people on this planet to do anything.

                                • pidromonz
                                  pidromonz  23 hours back

Indeed. There is no need for us to focus on these things. It's clear the video was sponsored by GMO to show the good parts and divert the attention from the reality.
Also the papaya problem is another example of how people mess up. We don't need to have 1 person taking care of 1 million plants, instead for healthy crops, instead of spraying tons of chemicals really more people need to work hard to clear weed and pests. It's a difficult job so all man is doing is to look for shortcuts and fight with nature. A war that can't be won.

If only sience would be that accurate & honestly open. They are surely painting the picture a certain way. I doubt that there is such accuracy in gene editing of food. There are still hospitals filled with patiënts who eat GMO foods. Not saying regular foods are so well evolved either. Nowadays there aren't so many ancient food variations to choose from. What's natural anyways? I really don't know. Climate resistant crops & increased healthy nutriënts okay....

                                  Popeye Gordon  3 days back

You are free to express doubt but that is not based on peer reviewed facts or actual conditions. YOU CAN NOT link a single person or animal that has been harmed in any way by eating foods that use the best breeding methods. Your bullshit about hospitals is a blatant bald faced ignorant lie you made up here on the spot. GMOs are not consumed, they are not food ingredients. GMO seed grows plain old food. You have never eaten a bowl of hybridization, a seed selection sandwich or a grafting salad and you have never eaten a 'GMO', you have eaten the wholesome foods those seeds grow. You got one thing almost right, there is no such thing as a 'natural' food now unless we catch it wild. We have altered all food genes for over 10,000 years for our benefit. We refuse to use any mutation that is not 100% beneficial and all new ones are tested for years before approval. Natural selection has always done the same with mutations that have to compete to survive.

My only worry about GMO's are that if it's allowed to be applied freely, scientists will keep pushing the goal post of what is morally defensible. Not all countries and cultures share the same view on what's right or wrong, and so all kinds of potentially invasive species will be developed, to the detrement of existing plant and wildlife. It's impossible to foresee what the effects could be. We have to draw a line in the sand somewhere, and i'd rather draw it sooner rather than later.

Am i being paranoid? Perhaps. But i think the area of GMO's has to be heavily tested, legislated and limited. And only the safest and most beneficial, non invasive soutions should be allowed.

They already are. From the sounds of it, you dont really know anything about GMO regulation. Any food item at all that hits the consumer market must meet FDA regulations as well as other safety and health regulations. GMOs especially. All this stuff has been thoroughly screened.

Not only that, but you're willing to halt one of the most important innovations in technology in human history because you're just a little uncomfortable about something you know pretty much nothing about. GMOs can save billions to trillions of dollars, save millions of lives, and like they mentioned in the video, even help protect the biosphere and reduce man made climate change.

Not only that, but there are already massive amounts of foods that are GMOs and you dont even REALIZE it. Probably half the fruits or vegetables at a super market are GMOs in one way or another, and ALL of them have been selectively breaded by humans altering their genetic information.

Also, on top of all of this, what immoral stuff do you think theyre even trying to do? How would any of the shit they're trying to do even be immoral. All they're doing is introducing genetic material from plants and bacteria into a new plant to add new traits that are massively beneficial. Its not like they're disceting babies or some other sifi-horror shit. This is why you need to actually educate yourself on what this technology actually is cuz people dont understand anything about how this shit actually works. All they know is shit from fucking movies with no real understanding at all.

Yes you are paranoid and operating from a reality deprived stance. You don not understand that "freely" has to include very extensive testing mandated by safety agencies, no exceptions. FDA, USDA & EPA tests take years to complete before any GMO seed is sold. Invasive species are a separate issue and not related to GMO seed. You can not cite wild fields of corn, soy or cotton. It doesn't work that way. ALL FARMING OF EVERY SORT IS INVASIVE TO NATURE! No exceptions. No farm is ever non-invasive, the only natural state for land is virgin forest or pristine prairies. That ship has sailed.

I'm not against the idea of gmos, they sound great, but my biggest concern is long term effects; studies can't say what will happen to the body over time, it could take 50 years for effects to show. Again I'm not against the idea, it's just a concern.

You are repeating the fear mongering meme inserted into your brain by anti-science activists secretly funded by the organic foods cartel. There is no GMO bogeyman. When we eat something bad we know it within 20 minutes to 6 hours. 50 years my ass!!!! Science has never documented a 50 year delayed food reaction, ever, let alone a 1 year delay. We have been enjoying GMO sourced foods for 27 years, a human generation is 25 years.

+pidromonz Ignorant horseshit lie. 100% - YES A FULL ONE HUNDRED PERCENT IDENTICAL FLAVOR AND NUTRITION PROFILE IS ACHIEVED WITH EITHER ORGANIC OR GMO. It's the law!! The only difference in flavor is directly connected to harvesting or picking at full ripeness or before full ripeness to get foods to market before spoiling. GMOs are required by law to be nutritionally equivalent or they don't get approved so stop the nasty lies you senile fuktard asshole troll. You are spreading false hatred intentionally.

Nope, making GMO's can't even reach the taste of an organic plant, not even 10%, as they can't engineer the taste or the nutrition value as the original ones.

Part of you is misguided and misled. There is no such thing as 'natural' food. That word will be banned from food labels. We have altered what was once natural plants and animals for over 10,000 years. There is also ZERO proof of any harmful long term effects that do not also exist with organic or conventional sourced foods.

                                    Which makes them uncomfortable.
They have a point in that a new gmo plant has to be tested to see if its still within health standarts. But that is something doable

comparing gmo to selective breeding is not really a good comparison
yes you can achieve certain outcomes with both methodes but gmo is much more powerfull since it can interduce genes from completely other species that would never be able to transfer that gene into that organism e.g. the bt crops you are talking about in this video
it is also very uncertain what gene drift can do with the enviroment since the consequences can not be perdicted
don´t get me wrong gmos have a very high potential but it is necessary to be carefull about how you use it since the consequences are not simple to understand and even harder to predict

The video is misleading as it compares GMO (which is modifying organisms in a lab) with selective breeding.
GMO's do not have the same nutrition value or taste as they are rushed ( in nature a plant takes hundreds to thousands of years to evolve the genes )
GMO's will never reach the proper value of real crops. They appeared because corporations are greedy and wish to make tons of profits by having 100% sales from their plants, where organic ones do not last even 30% as much.

No. All GMOs undergo years of safety testing before approval and potential allergens are specifically tested for. The very few people that end up with a GMO allergy are less in number as those with allergies from conventional and organic foods.

Oh dear lord... do I dare look at the comment section?

Huh. It's actually not bad for the most part. Tentative hope...

Honestly, GMO = Bad is one of the most widely accepted conspiracies in our world today, which is a mighty shame. Too many people jump on the train to ban the crops without realizing the actual issue.

                                                        Nice science there, mate.

+pidromonz "bad stuff and no taste" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! You are pissing in the wind. No proof? Never happened. Each legitimate honest forthright comparison between the flavor of GMO vs. organic produce has to be done double blind, with each crop picked at 100% peak ripeness and all tasted at the exact same length of time after picking, transported at equal temperature and humidity, in equivalent growing seasons with equivalent weather and water stress, not picked green. You are an idiot with no skills for debate.

The example of chocolate killing dogs, and coffee killing insects is amazing, anyone know a few more of these kind of foods?

+Reese Anastasi The things is we don't need pesticides, they were invented for greedy corporations to make 100% sales from crops instead of maximum 70-80% from organic ones. As they grow over large amounts of land and do not want to hire enough people to tend for the plants.
As every crop is sprayed with pesticide a bit of poison from each builds in the body, don't be fooled by ' if it's just a drop it's fine' In reality it's never fine.

+Popeye Gordon It's for a persuasive school assignment, the analogy describing the BT crops "pesticide" being a matter of perspective is perfect for persuasion. Thanks for the example tho, really appreciate it :)

Focusing on death is not realistic. But consider hot peppers which have a natural pesticide. They are coveted by many cultures for the heat and also can be used to make tear gas. As always, the dose makes the poison.
