Aren't we all being way to passive about this issue? We as a society have the power to change what we want the future society to look, so if AI is unsustainable just don't promote it. Economy is regulated by people income, if we don't have money, we don't buy products or services and others jobs won't be lucrative, so the prices may decrease to stabilize this; *we don't have such a self balanced reaction with AI 'cause there are no writen rules for it* We need to take control of our own lives, at a society level this is the same as creating systems that won't blow up in our faces..

Maybe we are seeing it wrong, we are comparing the machines with our old vision of society and work. In my opinion, we dont have to change the machines, we have to change the society. Maybe the idea of work is obsolet, what if we develop a society were people dont need to work no more? A wolrd were the humans focus on enjoying life, having hobbies, etc

The machines would do every work that is not creative and the humans would work at create things (inventions, art, games, sports, etc)

Robots and automation might just take care of humans and money would not be a problem as productivity is increasing but hours worked stayed the same. more production, less work. money might not be needed and everything is just free

I normally find Kurzgesagt really interesting and I can accept that the world will end one day. But dear god this video was depressing. What are people meant to do with their lives without jobs? Sit at home all day with their 'Universal Income', living on antidepressants. If/When this happens the typical human lifestyle would need to drastically change. Humans need some goal or objective in life, which jobs provide. I hope this happens long after I'm gone. :(

Your stats are flawed. Despite automating many jobs and showing no working hours increased, you failed to show they never decreased, meaning: people evolve into other jobs as they give the simple jobs off to machines and robots. However, if we don’t stop the people in big Tech from colluding with each other to overturn elections that don’t suit their needs and silence people they disagree with, then the second option is not only possible - it’s already here.

Let me take a stab at identifying one of the main problems at work here:

Goods and services can be produced more efficiently than ever, but for the most part, we're not expected to spend less time producing them. Spending 35 to 40 hours a week at a paying job is something that lots of people still expect *of themselves* regardless of economic need. When productivity doubles, instead of workers each only working half the hours they needed to before, half of them are laid off. The obvious solution is for people to *work less*. A lower supply of human labor means higher demand for human labor, higher wages, and less competition for jobs.

More efficient labor ought to mean that people in general can work less to obtain a higher quality of life, but that doesn't work so well when an increasingly relatively small elite both produces and consumes nearly everything. The trick is convincing people that they shouldn't blindly PRODUCE PRODUCE PRODUCE so they can CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME, because (1) after a certain point, more free time is more valuable than things you can buy and (2) *employment* is now a scarce resource, so working as long and hard as you can has become, in many cases, detrimental to society.

Basically, where in the past you had to have humans oversee these machines, now you don't have to. It used to be (and largely still is) that you have to have humans managing the machines. The machines enhance the humans. In the future you can set up a factory and tell it to produce something, and with minimal management *it fucking will*

I don't see why people panic about losing their jobs to machines: if fewer people are needed to do a certain job as a consequence of automation, it just means that labour can be redistributed elsewhere. If labour is redistributed elsewhere, that means more total output; more total output means more taxes, and more taxes allow creating more jobs, and more jobs allow for further redistribution of labour. This does come with the potential problem of initially not having enough jobs to redistribute the labour to, but that's what welfare is for.

And yet the jobs that I heard many experts expect to be automated in the foreseeable future are ones that are relatively repetitive (many of them are). The machines, and AI we have right now are very good at specific tasks, such as the tasks mentioned in this video, or playing chess etc. What need to be developed in a general intelligence AI that is capable of learning and doing many tasks efficiently on it's own. Which is something we still have yet to manage. Even if we do manage this it's debatable whether or not humans will ever be removed completely from the workplace. Humans and AI think very differently from each other. That's why it's speculated that in the future we will have a hybrid of both so that everyone benefits. We'll likely all require neural implants of some kind in order to remain relevant (Who knows?). Whatever the outcome will be I fear that we are not ready for it socially are economically. The proceeding decades could end up being very tragic and grim indeed.
